Teaching methods are constantly evolving and improving to appeal to the next generation.  E-learning is a new approach to education that utilizes technology inside and outside the classroom.  It’s innovative and cost-effective.  But like most new ideas, it has drawbacks that still need to be worked out.  Here are three problems with e-learning and how SSAMCAST plans to tackle these issues.

1.  Lack of engagement
One of the problems with e-learning is the lack of engagement between student and teacher.  The convenience of online classes is also its drawback, students can access their lectures from wherever they are, but they are unable to instantly connect with teachers, and vice versa.  This flexibility gives way to a form of learning that is delayed and students have to wait to get responses for their questions.  Without a classroom environment that encourages students to interact and work through their problems together, a student can feel isolated and lonely.

SSAMCAST’s Solution-
SSAMCAST has an ask feature equipped on the website for users to post their questions for everyone to see.  Other SSAMCAST users will be available to help with any problem that a student has.  They can provide step-by-step guidance to find a solution and give their input, inciting discussions.

2.  Plain content
E-learning services often fall into the trap of trading quality for quantity.  Lectures may be released in large amounts, providing more selection, but in exchange the content becomes monotonous and formulaic.  When the courses become repetitive, students lose interest and their ability to learn effectively.  Online learning struggles to replicate the diverse teaching methods that

SSAMCAST’s Solution-

3.  No social interaction

The online classroom can be a lonely one.  Students who are taking advantage of e-learning are usually using it as a supplement to their traditional school.  They can focus on their studies without the typical distractions of a classroom.  While this method may be a better method for some shy students who do not like speaking up in class, it also removes one of the key elements of learning- collaboration.  Students who utilize e-learning miss the aspect of the classroom where they have the opportunity to work with others towards a common goal.

SSAMCAST’s Solution-
As a social education portal, SSAMCAST is a classroom that also serves as a place for users to interact with one another.  Using comments sections and “recommend” features, students can discuss lectures and academic topics with others who share the same academic goals.

What do you think?  Are there other problems with e-learning that SSAMCAST should address?  Leave a comment below!
